The Mazda CX-8 2022 is coming to Malaysia! According to sources, the car will be launched in Malaysia soon, and is expected to retain the current 2.5L natural intake engine + 2.2L diesel option, but will also include a 2.5L turbocharged version! I believe local consumers should prefer the petrol turbo version!
The CX-8 is a new car for the Asia Pacific market, and will only be available in Japan, South East Asia and China, among other markets. The front end has a similar design to the CX-5 and the rear end is similar to the CX-9. The wheelbase is the same as the CX-9 with 2,930 mm, so the car will have more space inside than the CX-5.
The following is a comparison of the dimensions of the three vehicles.
CX-5: 4,550 mm X 1,842 mm X 1,680 mm with a wheelbase of 2,700 mm
CX-8: 4,900 mm X 1,840 mm X 1,730 mm, wheelbase 2,930 mm
CX-9: 5,075 mm X 1,969 mm X 1,747 mm, wheelbase 2,930 mm
The interior is very similar to the CX-5 due to its positioning, and is basically identical to it. In addition to this, the interior seats are available in 2+3+2, 2+2+3 and 2+2+2 configurations to suit your needs.
The engine is originally a 2.5L Skyactiv-G natural gas engine and a 2.2L Skyactiv-D diesel twin-turbo engine, the former with 192 Hp/258 Nm and the latter with 188 Hp/450 Nm, both mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission, but as the local market is not very receptive to diesel engines. However, as the local market is not very receptive to diesel engines and natural gas engines are considered to be underpowered, this is the biggest weakness of the CX-8.
For this reason, it is reported that a 2.5L turbocharged version will be added to the 2022 facelift.
