Two pieces of news of BMW

by Dorothy M. Drewry

The pre-orders for BMW iX had opened several months ago

Some big news on the local electrification front today. If you’ve been eagerly waiting for a worthwhile electric vehicle to hit our market, you probably don’t have to. BMW Cars Philippines launches iX electric SUV.

While the iX is still available for pre-order only, we have been informed of its local asking price. The IX xDrive40 will cost P6,290,000 – and did we mention it’s electric?

Its all-electric setup uses fifth-generation BMW eDrive technology and is good for an impressive 326bhp (combined) and 630Nm of torque sent to all four wheels. Perhaps most importantly, it offers a range of up to 425 km per charge. Honestly, that’s more than enough for most uses. The iX definitely looks like an EV, with an exterior vibe that relies heavily on its corners, slim headlights, and a large amount of flat, minimalist surfaces. The SUV uses large 21-inch two-tone wheels, an insulated windshield and an automatic tailgate.

The iX’s cabin is also very eco-friendly, with plenty of natural skin, ambient lighting, and a clutter-free dashboard. Instead of the usual driver-oriented layout, it is dominated by a large curved screen containing vehicle information and control functions.

BMW 2-Series in the Philippines

Big news from BMW today is the launch of the iX electric SUV in the Philippines, which is currently taking pre-orders from BMW Philippines.

But it is not the only Bimmer entering our market today. The German automaker also showcased the all-new 2 Series locally, proving once again that it can do big things with small packages. And we don’t mean the grille in general, because you won’t see that here. There is only one variant of the BMW 2 Series 2022  available for purchase: the 220i M Sport, priced at P3,69,000.

Under the bonnet of the 220i M Sport is a 2.0-liter TwinPower turbocharged 4-cylinder engine that produces 184 hp and 300 Nm of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels and shifting is done by an eight-speed automatic transmission. It also can be operated by an M Sport suspension setup.

As an M car, only the sportiest parts of the brand are considered appropriate. On the outside, the car benefits from the company’s comprehensive M aerodynamic package, as well as an M rear spoiler and 18-inch M alloy wheels, perfect additions to the 2’s minimalist aesthetic.
